[Bibdesk-users] Importing in RIS format?

Hi,

I'm new to Bibdesk. I'm very interested in this program as I have a lot
of papers which I would like to organize. I use a service called
ScienceDirect (www.sciencedirect.com). They have quite a number of
journals there. Here's the problem. I try to "Export citation" on their
site. They only allow me to export to RIS or ASCII format. The RIS is
said to be for reference manager, procite, and endnote.

I am wondering how I can import the citation into bibdesk. Thanks for
your help!

If you like using scripts, go for Chris Putnam's BIBUTILS:

Version 2.15 is stable on MacOSX and does this :

med2xml - convert medline to XML intermediate
bib2xml - convert bibtex to XML intermediate
end2xml - convert endnote to XML intermediate
isi2xml - convert ISI format to XML intermediate
ris2xml - convert RIS format to XML intermediate
xml2bib - convert XML intermediate into bibtex
xml2ris - convert XML intermediate into RIS format for Reference Manager
xml2en - convert XML intermediate into format for EndNote
xmlreplace - do find/replace functions on specific XML fields
uniqbib - ensure that automatically generated Bibtex keywords are unique

to convert a RIS file, just run ris2xml, then xml2bib.
